AST vs. Diploma in Medical Assisting – What’s the Difference?

As a successful graduate of the AST Medical Assistant Comprehensive course, you’ll not only have the necessary skills to assist in a physician’s office, but you’ll also be qualified to work with medical specialists and have experience in the critical thinking skills necessary for Medical administration.

The Medical Assisting Diploma program runs 8.5-10.5 months, depending on whether you attend day or evening classes. The Comprehensive Medical Assisting AST Degree program runs 16 months. Both programs are career-focused so you get the skills you need to land a great job in less time than a traditional college.

Unique Opportunity to Work with Children

A specialized training partnership has been formed between Children's Community Pediatrics (CCP), a subsidiary of Children's Hospital of UPNC and Career Training Academy®. Students in the Medical Assistant Comprehensive program who have a special interest in working with children will have the opportunity to apply for a special practical learning experience via a CCP externship in an environment dedicated to quality care for children.
